In response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Haiti, one of the leaders in the online casino world has come forth to speak his mind.  Founder of online gambling site Bodog, Calvin Ayre, has asked his colleagues to step up to the plate and donate funds to ease the suffering in the Caribbean nation.

Just over a week ago, an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale hit Haiti, resulting in an estimated one hundred to two thousand deaths.  With assistance not coming in fast enough, more and more people and charities are pledging money.  NBA star Shaquille O’Neal suggested a Dunk-for-Haiti contest with Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Vince Carter.  Former Presidents Clinton and Bush II took to the airwaves to beg people to donate.

And now Ayre, one of the most high-profile individuals in the world of casino games, has taken his turn.  He challenged other online gambling leaders to give money and offered to match the largest donation up to one million bucks.  He continued by saying that all money-making people should feel compelled to help while adding that he was disgusted by the leadership of Haiti whose actions led to poverty in the country.

While Ayre’s location is unknown (he has been in hiding for years from the United States government), he has made an obscene amount of money by getting into the online casino business at an early stage.  With Haiti suffering, the time is now to take some of that hard-earned money and put it back into society.  It’s pretty clear that this small impoverished island needs it pretty badly.
