Colorado: One of the truly beautiful states in the USA. Skiing. Beautiful-smelling mountain air. Government officials with their heads on straight. I knew there was something I loved about Colorado and here’s one more: Jared Polis, Democratic Congressman out of the hip city of Boulder, is the most recent supporter of legalized online gambling in the US, and to put it more accurately, the most recent opponent of the online gambling ban.
Ever since the well-publized Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) put an effective ban on the online casino industry in the States, millions (billions?) of tax dollars have gone out the window as Americans eager to play casino games like online poker, online blackjack, and online everything have taken their online dollars and gone online elsewhere.
In Roll Call, the newspaper of Capitol Hill, Polis expressed his belief that the online gambling ban is failing and that we should be regulating it, not banning it. The whole point of the internet is to provide freedoms and that to regulate it is what’s best for Americans.
This isn’t Polis’s first support for online freedoms. This guy gets it. He’s not even 35 yet and he represents Boulder, home to the University of Colorado, one of the coolest universities in the country. Is it any surprise that he sees the writing on the wall, that the internet is here to stay and it’s us who need to adjust? How many poker games are going on at one particular time on a university campus? 10? 100? 1,000,000?????? (Sorry, I got a bit excited.)
With Barney Frank behind him, it’s only a matter of time before the ban is repealed and online casino fans are free to play the casino games of their choice. Get ready, Americans….it’s getting closer.
